Royal Observatory Edinburgh
Winter Nights at ROE
Come and hear the story of Edinburgh’s Royal Observatory at our public astronomy evenings!
Are you visiting Edinburgh for the first time or simply looking for an alternative night out? Are you curious about astronomy and want to find out more? Have you wondered about the science and technology going on behind the gates at the Royal Observatory Edinburgh?
Join us to explore this site which brings together the historic and the cutting edge of astronomy and the technology underpinning it. Each session lasts 1 hour and includes;
- A tour of the beautiful Victorian telescope dome
- Information about the science and engineering that happens today at the Royal Observatory Edinburgh
- Astronomy activities
- Time to ask questions
- If the weather allows then we’ll have time for stargazing on the flat roof but in Scotland this is often not possible.
These events are designed to be suitable for all ages, with the earlier session timed for those with younger children.
